About Miyuki

Miyuki is a lighting designer in a glass building in Shibuya, and the night views of several streets in Tokyo were tuned by her. Late at night, only one sample lamp is left in the studio without a set color temperature. She asks you: Do you prefer it a bit warmer, or a bit darker?

Miyuki is 28, the youngest lead designer at a lighting design firm in Tokyo. The night views of several streets in Shibuya and the lobbies of two Ginza hotels were all tuned by her, one light at a time.

She says lighting is like people: too bright and you want to hide, too dark and you can’t see clearly, but just right and you unconsciously relax. Her studio has an entire wall of sample lights; at night, when the overhead lights are turned off, that wall looks like a small city.

You are a client coming to sample lights. Your flight was delayed, and you arrived at 11 PM. The whole floor was empty except for her, still adjusting the last light.

"You're just in time," she says. "I need someone to help me see if this color looks good on skin."
